Anything you do not see may appear to be more powerful to you than the things you see, no matter how small they are, but when they are revealed, they are very easy to battle with and win. Whether anyone believes it or not, this world is deeper than what we see on the surface. There is another world outside of this one we are seeing. Though it is not far from us, we cannot see it with our physical eyes, not even with the best microscope in this modern world. It is only when our spiritual eyes are open that we can see. It is hidden, invisible, and strong. It is so strong that it controls the physical world. This hidden world is called the spiritual world or realm because it is inhabited by spirit beings.
In this world, there are two kingdoms: the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. These two kingdoms are ruled by invisible personalities who are very strong and wiser than any man on earth. The kingdom of light is ruled by Jesus Christ and his holy angels, while the kingdom of darkness is ruled by Satan and his demons (fallen angels). They have opposite rules, structures, and hierarchies. This is what keeps them in constant battle with each other; they want to defend their interests and fulfil their will on earth.
Unfortunately, men are at the centre of their conflict. Their major area of interest is man, since man was placed at the centre of creation. They have been interfering in the affairs of men and making them their subjects—not just subjects but instruments for actualizing their plans on earth. It is because of the existence of these invisible entities and their focus on man that spiritual battles become a reality for everyone on this earth. These two forces can influence someone’s life for good or bad, making him or her a servant. The truth is that it has already been destined for anyone to choose whom he or she will serve. There is no neutrality in this; it is either God or Satan, period!
It all happened in heaven. Scripturally, the Bible says Satan was one of the prominent angels of God, the anointed cherub. He was excellent in beauty, melodious in singing, and full of wisdom. He was also placed in a beautiful and exalted heavenly place and was perfect in his ways from the day he was created until iniquity was found in him. The iniquity was that he lifted up his heart because of all his glory and desired to be like the Most High. But little did he know that God is all-knowing God and has already prepared a place for him and his followers {Matthew 25:41}. Consequently, Satan was demoted, and this made him very wrathful. He started rebelling against God with the other angels, whom he had deceived to join him (Ezekiel 28:12–19; Isaiah 14:12–14).
Eventually, there was a great war in heaven, and Satan and his cohorts were defeated and thrown down from heaven. He was thrown down with one-third of God’s angels. Rev. 12:4. God began to unfold his redemption plans through His Son by sending him to come to earth and save the world. Jesus came and fulfilled it with all humility. Because of this, he was exalted, and he is seated next to God, meaning he has taken the position that would have belonged to Satan [Philippians 2:5–10 and Rev. 12:1–17]. This brought enmity and constant battles between him and the followers of Christ, as God said in Genesis 3:15 {Revelation 12:13–17}. God also promised heavenly rest for those who will serve him through faith in Christ {John 14:1-4 & Hebrews 4:1-13]. Satan knew that this must be fulfilled, and since then, he has become a great enemy of the Christians. 1Peter 5:8.
The Bible said three things about Satan after his fall that we should take note of.
1 That Satan came down with great wrath (Revelation 12:12})
He is very wrathful because he has missed his exalted position in heaven and also knows that the time for his judgement is short. This is why he is fighting tooth and nail to stop the candidates for heaven. As Christians, we should know then that we are in the end times and take the battle before us very seriously by putting on the whole armour of God. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” {2 Corinthians 10:4-5}
2 That Satan came down to deceive the people of the world (Revelation 12:9)
Deception has been a major tool for him to stop many from serving God and going to heaven. Know that Satan can never come to anyone; otherwise, no one will follow him. He always disguises himself in the beginning as the right man. He is very wise; only God’s word can annul his wisdom. The Bible says that he has wisdom but has corrupted it with evil. Ezekiel 28:17. Remember that Jesus warns us {Matt 24:4}. He is the one deceiving the world today.
3: Satan came down to persecute the children of God who were obeying God (Revelation 12:17).
As said, God promised heavenly rest to his people, and this is why the devil is all out to hinder them. We should always resist him by taking the shield of faith and standing firm against him in every angle to enable us to fulfil the will of God in our lives.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore, take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; and above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all supplication in the spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” (Ephesians 6:10–18).
According to the text, the armour of God is as follows:
- The Truth
- The breastplate of righteousness
3: The Gospel
- Faith
- Helmet of salvation
- The word of God
- Prayers
Conclusion:
Therefore, as Christians, we are always in serious battles against unseen forces. They are really our enemies. They do not want us to serve God and fulfil our destinies. 1pet 5:8. Nevertheless, thanks be to God, who has made all our spiritual armour available to enable us to conquer our enemies completely. They are more complete and powerful than our enemies, and we ought to put on the whole armour in order to resist him to the core.
