THE REALITY AND HORROR OF HELL

 

Hell is an invisible reality. Whether anyone believes it or not, the fact still remains that there is hellfire and heaven somewhere. Hell is a place where the souls of unrepentant sinners are tortured with unquenchable fire forever, while heaven is a place of unlimited joy for the saints. Hell is mentioned both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Our Lord Jesus talks about hell in several places in the New Testament and makes it very clear in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31).

However, with all these revelations about the existence of hell, there are still many people who do not believe. They always argue that God, being an all-loving Father, cannot prepare such a place for anyone. In this regard, the question now is, if it is so, why should Jesus always warn us against hell? Does it mean that he didn’t mean it? He really meant it! It’s just that they don’t want to believe him to save their consciences. And there is no doubt that it is the devil that has blinded them.

We know that God is love, and in him there is no darkness (1 John 1:5; 4:8). He loves mankind because he created them in his own image. He also wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). But God does not love sin. He hates it (Habakkuk 1:13). This is why, in the beginning, hell was not created for anyone but for the devil, who had been sinning from the beginning. Unfortunately, some people decided to join the devil to wallow in the darkness instead of coming to the knowledge of truth and getting saved (Matthew 25:41).

So the argument should be discarded based on the fact that some people have chosen to follow the path of the devil and will surely end up with the devil in hell. God created us as free moral agents to make our choices, and he always honours them. God is not to be blamed; see what he says here: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live(Deuteronomy 30:19). Hell is real, and as long as God has shown us the right path, it now becomes a choice for anyone to be there.

THE HORRORS OF HELL

Heaven is indescribably beautiful, full of unending joy, peace, and love. God is there, and this gives every soul a complete sense of security and hope. It is indeed a place to be with the Lord forever. But in hell, the reverse is the case.

Let’s see now why hell is so horrible.

Firstly, it was created for Satan and his demons.

Secondly, people don’t realise that hell is the absence of God.

 

There’s no air in hell because God is the breath of life. Why is there no peace in hell because God is the prince of peace? There is no comfort in hell, because God is the comforter.

There is no love in hell, because God is love.

Hell is darkness because God is the light.

 

Eternal Separation:

Hell is a place of eternal separation from God, where the damned are cut off from His presence forever.

 

Unquenchable Fire:

Hell is a place of unending, intense, and unquenchable flames.

 

Gnashing of Teeth:

In Hell, there will be constant agony and suffering, leading to the gnashing of teeth in despair.

 

Eternal Torment:

Hell is a realm of eternal suffering where the sinner’s soul endures pain and torment endlessly.

 

Regret and remorse:

Those in Hell are already experiencing overwhelming regret and remorse for their wrong choices and actions during their earthly lives. But it’s too late.

 

Loneliness:

Hell is a desolate place where souls experience profound loneliness and isolation.

 

No Hope:

There is no hope for redemption or escape from Hell for all souls that get there.

 

Worms:

Hell includes the imagery of worms that never die, symbolising decay and suffering.

 

Outer Darkness:

Hell is a place of outer darkness where there is no source of light or hope.

 

Constant Fear:

Hell is a realm of constant fear and dread, with no respite from the horrors that unfold.

Great signs in heaven

Scripturally, eclipse is one of the signs of the end time and warning against evil. It has been happening from time to time in different places in the world. However, it is obvious that the eclipses that have been occurring in diverse places these days are unprecedented that one could easily tell that something is behind the scene. For example, the recent eclipse that occurred in America and it’s neighborhood, Different sets of people have different views about that. But as Christians, we viewed it based on what the bible says, which is a warning for repentance.
Biblically, God sent his servant, Joel to tell Israel about their sins and the need for them to genuinely repent. He also told them about what will happen in the last days so that they will hear and draw closer to him (Joel 1, 2).
Prophet Joel was a preacher of repentance, judgment and hope. He delivered his message with all sincerity because he was fully convinced that a great day is coming; a day of the Lord, a day of recompense, in which God will judge the world for their wickedness and to give every man and nation according to tjeir works.

From the description above, it is aparent that the judgement day is going to be terrible. However, those who shall genuinely call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For this reason, God always send warning signs to erring people so that they can repent before that great day.
The message of Joel concerning the end time was so outstanding and straightforward that Jesus  also confirmed it in his word Luke 21:11, 25. According to Joel in the last days the sun will be darkened (eclipse of the sun), the moon will become blood (eclipse of the moon), there will be flames of fire (Wildfire, Volcanic eruptions), the unusual movement of the earth etc. All these are happening before our eyes in these last days ( Joel 2:30-32).
As said earlier, these are signs of the end time which God is using to tell people or a nation to repent. The message of Joel is even more relevance to us today than Israel as long as we are in the end time.
The coming of Christ is imminent. We are to repent now and receive Christ into our life before it is too late.
For instance, during the last eclipse of the sun in America and its neighboring nations, it was widely reported that many people were screaming about in great fear because of its horror and the fact that they could not imagine what next will follow. Among these people were some who thought it might be the rapture they have been hearing about. So after the eclipse they decided to go around their neighborhood to check if any of the true Christian they know is still on the earth.
This is very funny and pathetic as well. If you are a true believer how can you be afraid of such moment when there is hope for you . It means that your life is not right with God, Because the Bible says: ” then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh (Luke 21:28).
However, the eclipse has come and gone but the horror it left behind should lead anyone to repentance. There is no two ways about it. Don’t be lured away by what you see outside.

Many are being carried away by the luxurious lifestyles of certain people in a particular profession. Let God be your strength.

Our life here on earth is a very short journey compared to the eternity that awaits us after death. We came to this world as sojourners, and one day we shall all go back to where we came from. It will be very wise, therefore, if we live this life with eternity in view. Our prayer should always be like this: “So teach us to number our days so that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12). 

For this reason, our lives should be characterized by good works and Christ in us, who is the hope of glory (Col. 1:27). Because when we pass on, that is what will follow us (Rev. 14:13). It is what we do here on earth that will determine where we will spend eternity, not after death, because it is written, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27).

In these end times, in particular, many are living their lives carelessly. They do not care about life after death. They believe that once they die, that is the end of their world, and that there is nothing like life after death or judgment. 

For this reason, they spend the time they have here engaging themselves in evil deeds. Some even sold their souls to the devil just for material things. All these things happened because they did not know that there is life after death and that everyone of us must be judged and rewarded according to our works. 

 Moreover, they do not also believe that there is hellfire for the disobedient people who will be tortured forever and heaven for the obedient ones who will live joyfully with the Lord as a result of their good works on earth. According to the Bible, hellfire is real and heaven is real, and only one of them is the destiny of every man. Hell was not created for man in the first place (Matt. 25:4). It was for the devil, but man decided to join the devil through evil deeds. This means it is our choice, not God’s, if anyone finds himself or herself there. God has given us his word to save us from the deceptions of the devil and hellfire. 

So, it is our choice, and making the right choice depends on the knowledge we have. No one will ever know the existence of hell and its horrors and wants to be there. It is just because they were deceived, and in the end, they found themselves regretting it. No wonder that the Bible says, ‘’ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hebrews 4:6). However, the problem is that many do not want to know because they do not believe in the Bible, which is the source of knowledge. As a result, they fall for all the pranks of the devil and end up in hellfire. The truth is that there is life after death. 

If anyone understands this revelation, he will surely know how to live his life on this earth. Life does not end when the body is dead and buried. We have two entities that live in the body. Man is a tripartite being that consists of the body, the soul, and the spirit. The body is our physical entity. The soul is that inner part that generates thoughts, desires, feelings, consciousness, etc., while the spirit is our invisible entity, like the image we see in the mirror or shadow without flesh and blood.

 It is the one communicating with God because God is a spirit. Both the spirit and the soul are encapsulated in the body. On the other hand, the soul is encapsulated in the spirit, and these are the immortal parts of our being. They are knit together just like bones and flesh in the body. For this reason, it is always difficult to treat spirit and soul separately (Heb. 4:12). When the spirit departs from the body, it departs with the soul (Matt 10:28).

For example, when we sleep, many times we still remember the things we did or saw in real life. We also see our body. As we interact in our dream world, we feel pain, happiness, fear, weakness, strength, etc. This is the result of the spirit and soul we have in the body—that though we are asleep, we still see ourselves as if we are in the real world. 

The spirit is that body we saw in the dream, while the soul is that part that generated our consciousness and feelings while we were there. Now what makes us return to the body is the spirit, not the soul, because one cannot perhaps tell how he always woke up. The spirit returns back into our body (the heart) with the soul, and we regain consciousness of our real world. 

How the spirit leaves the body completely is still a mystery that only God knows. It is in the dream world that the enemies come to attack the spirit, and if you are strong in the Lord, you conquer them. They leave their bodies and travel in the spirit to carry out their evil agenda. So, you see, some people have sold their souls to the devil for evil purposes. And if I may ask , where do they think the soul they sold to the devil will go to after death? It mean your soul will still be  surviving with the devil and this is why the devil have bought it!  Selling your soul to the devil means making a covenant to serve him and be with him forever after death. It is irreversible pact with great consequence. ” For shall it  profit a man if he shall gain the world and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36.

Again, tell me how God will communicate with or receive such a spirit. In death, the spirit and soul will leave the body completely, while the body will decay and be buried afterward. 

When this happens, there is only one destination that awaits the spirit, and that is heaven or hell. The devil will appear immediately, and his cohorts will receive him, while the angels will appear for the righteous to lead him to heaven, as we are told in the case of Moses (Jude 1:9). The spirit of Moses was defiled by sin, making him look like a mad man in the sight of God. Remember that he disobeyed God, and his spiritual garment was dirty (Deut. 34:4). Because of this, the devil appeared to claim him. 

From this example, we can see that, contrary to the belief of many, not all spirits go to God after death. Some are received by the devil after being rejected by God (Exodus 32:33). God is holy, and if anyone is not holy, he cannot see God (Heb. 12:14). 

It is important to know that defilement comes from the soul while we are alive. When our soul desires things and we want to gratify them by all means, we will surely get out of our way to do this and eventually sin against God and defile our spirit (James 1:14–15). 

Because of this, while we are alive, we ought to be renewing our minds through God’s word. God’s word will help us to live a spirit-controlled life. Everything starts in the mind before it manifests (Proverbs 4:23).

 So our body, our achievements, and our spirit are expressions of what we have been harboring in our minds. What really makes a madman be seen that way is his mind! Once this is changed, every part of him is changed immediately. One can now see why the devil has been targeting our minds to keep them captive through deception. 

“There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day; and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was lying at his gate, full of sores. And desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table; moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died and was buried. And in hell he lifts up his eyes, being in torment, and seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that those who would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house, for I have five brethren, that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham, but if one went unto them from the dead, they would repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead” (Like 16:19–31). 

 Another instance is the story of the rich man and Lazarus above. It is more of a real story than a parable, as we know. Jesus cited it to teach us the reality of life after death. This is because Abraham’s name is mentioned, which we all know. And this alone invalidates it for just being a parable. 

According to the story, Lazarus died and was buried. He was carried away by the angels to heaven. The rich man also died and was buried. However, though the Bible does not tell us who carried him to Hell, from what we learned, we know it was the devil. They met themselves and still recognized themselves and remembered all that happened in their lives. 

They were now spirits, not humans, and their spirits were clothed { now spiritual bodies}. They still had feelings of pain and joy while there, and they remembered their family members. This is because their spirit and soul went out together. Unlike in the world where the body houses both, there it is the spirit that houses the soul.

 So, do not be deceived by the devil; there is life after death. Even Jesus said to one on the cross that today he would be with him in paradise (Luke 23:42–43). Peter also tells us how Jesus appeared in hell to the spirits of those who died (1 Peter 4:6). 

Apart from this, many people have shared their near-dead experiences to confirm that this is real. For this reason, what we need to do is repent now, like the thief on the cross. Life is a journey. Though many things are calling for our attention, one thing is very necessary, which is our salvation.

We have a very short time here on earth; we will go back to the world beyond. Each and every one of us will surely leave this world one day. But the big question is, where will we spend eternity? The great thing about to happen in the world

If anything could happen to take away all our problems, if anything could make us see our loved ones again who have passed unto glory in the Lord, if anything could give us eternal rest, that is a great thing indeed! In fact, it is the greatest thing that could ever happen in our lives and in the world in particular. It is about Jesus’ coming to the world again to take away his people from the impending judgment.

Jesus says: 

‘’Behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” 
Rev. 22:12.

It is worth believing now that a great thing is about to happen, considering the numerous and strange happenings around the world today. The prophecies of the end time are unfolding before our eyes. No one can say he or she has not seen any of these apocalyptic events around him or her. The signs are everywhere.

Isaiah

♣    Strange movement of the earth and unprecedented natural disasters (24:18–20). 
♣    All nations are gathering against Israel for war (13:4, 66:18, Zech. 12:1-4).

Ezekiel 

♣    Re-gathering of the Jews and the plans to rebuild the Third Temple (Ezek. 37)
♣    Massive destructions (38:21–22)

Daniel

♣    Knowledge shall increase, as shall business engagements (12:4). 
♣    High rate of wickedness (12:10). 
♣    New world order and preparation for the Anti-Christ (Dan. 9 and 13). 
♣    Ten united nations (2:42–44, 7:24) 
♣     The emergence of kings of the south, north, and east (11:40–44).

Joel 

♣    The overwhelming presence of the Holy Ghost among the believers, his works in the church, and the spread of the gospel
♣    Great signs in heaven (2:28–32).

Micah

♣    The influx of people to the Holy Land (4:1-2).

Jesus

♣    Wars and rumors of war
♣    Nations rising against nations
♣    Famine {Scarcity of food}

Unfortunately, some people are saying that nothing is new under the earth and that these things have been occurring since thousands of years ago. So, to them, it is a usual thing. Because of this, they close their hearts against any warning, as in the days of Noah. According to the Bible, these sets of people are scoffers, fulfilling the scripture (2 Peter 3:3). However, the truth still remains that these are happening serially, as written in the Scriptures. They are beyond human comprehension. There is no area of life in which these are not affected, and according to global statistics and reports, they are unprecedented.
Consequently, it has attracted global attention for solutions so that the earth could be habitable for humans. But even scientists have discovered that the world is coming to an end and that there is nothing they could humanly do to restore it. This is why making Mars habitable is one of their top priorities today, so that a colony of people can be preserved there instead of repairing the irreparable earth. 

The Rapture 
Thanks be to God, a great thing is about to happen that will put everything in its place. This great thing is about the Rapture! It is the only way we can escape the damning nature of this world and reign with the Lord forever. Rapture is the sudden catching up of the saints to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thess. 4:17). 
Many people do not believe in the rapture simply because the word rapture is not mentioned in the Bible directly. But from Paul’s description above and Jesus’ references, one could tell that they are about the Rapture. Paul says ‘’catching up of the saints to meet the Lord in the air’ while Jesus says two women will be grinding at the mill, one shall be taken and the other left (Matt. 24:40–41). Are these not talking about the Rapture? To my own understanding, it is about the rapture, and it is the right word to use. The fact that the Bible just describes it does not mean we should not believe it. We are to believe it as long as the concept is already there. After all, God has already demonstrated it in the lives of Enoch and Elijah (2 Kings 2, Gen. 5:24). 
Now, this sudden upward transport will bring both the dead and the living in the Lord to meet the Lord in the air. According to Paul’s description above, Jesus will not be seen universally on earth. He will remain in the air, and only those who will be raptured shall see him and ascend with him into his kingdom to celebrate the marriage supper (Rev 19:9). This will precede his second coming, where every eye on the earth will see him (Matt. 24:27). 
The major purpose of the rapture is for God to take away his people before the rule of the Anti-Christ. Just like scientists are searching for habitable planets like Mars, God has already prepared heaven for his people. Leaving this troublesome earth for a glorious place is every man’s dream, but it cannot happen that way. Christ is the only way to escape the rapture. God used it to save his servants, Enoch and Elijah, and he will do it again. Hallelujah! 

The reign of the Anti-Christ

After the rapture, there is the government of the Anti-Christ on earth. A wicked and tyrannical leader is coming to rule this world. He will be backed up by Satan. He will present himself to the world and the Jews in particular as the Messiah. He will rule for seven years (Daniel 7:25). In the next three and a half years, he will appear to be the one the whole world has been waiting for. He will do great signs and wonders and seems to restore peace and the economy of the world. This is the time he will be able to make a peace treaty with the Jews, and they will accept him as their Messiah. This is not a fairy tale or myth, as many believed, but a reality. Satan is in this world right now, though invisible (Rev. 2:13). He is the god of this world. There are people who worship him and pay complete allegiance to him. They are Satanists, just as there are Christians. They also have their own church of Satan. Some of them are at the ‘33’ level, while some have already acquired the mark of the beast (666). This enables them to communicate with Satan directly, as if he were one of their family members, knowing his deep secrets (Rev 2:24). 
They know their master’s plans for this world. You can confirm this by reading The New World Order or any articles on world conspiracies. They even have a book called the Satanic Bible, but I cannot advise you to read it.
They are a conglomerate of evil people. 
who ignorantly believed their master that they were on top of the world’s affairs and would rule with the Anti-Christ. 
They know the Anti-Christ as the Superman who is coming to rule the world and restore things. If you have ever watched films or games like Superman, Batman, Ben Ten, Lord of the Rings, The Terminator, etc., some of their concepts are revealed there. They want the world to embrace them before they happen, and most of those actors are images of falling angels. They are feverishly working for the devil to manifest the evil ruler. They know him, and he has been trying to manifest in the world, but God has been restricting him until after the rapture (2 Thess. 2). Remember, Jesus made reference to him in his word (John 5:43). He will surely come. In fact, his works are apparent today, especially in the areas of computerization, governance, and globalization. 
His government, especially after the first three and a half years, will be very terrible and weird. The Bible called it the time of Jacob’s trouble. Jesus confirmed what Daniel said: that it will be such a hard time that no time will ever be compared to it (Daniel 13:1, Matt. 24:2). As said earlier, this is why God wants to take away his people from the earth through the rapture. Salvation will no longer be by grace but by every man’s effort and blood. There will be no preaching or church again because the Anti-Christ will stop everything about God. Every means of transaction will be centralized. The mark of the beast will be given to people by force, and human beings will be computerized. This will enable him to have absolute control over the people. Besides this, other weird things will happen in the world that will make life extremely terrible for those who will miss the rapture (Rev. 16). I tell you, it is not really going to be funny. 
But Jesus says that for the sake of Israel, God will shorten those days (Matt. 24:22). Remember that many Jews do not believe that Jesus is the Messiah and cannot be raptured because of their unbelief. This is why Jesus will reveal himself to them after the last seven years of the reign of the Anti-Christ to save them because of the covenant that God made with their forefathers. 
The second coming of Christ
In the second coming of Christ, all the people on earth shall see him descend from heaven with great power and glory. He will come with the raptured saints and angels. He is coming to destroy the Anti-Christ, the false prophet, and all his armies to save his people. As said earlier, by the end of the seven years of his rule, the Anti-Christ, who will rule from the temple of the God of Israel in Jerusalem with the false prophet, will sacrifice a pig as a way of desecrating Yahweh. This is why Christ says ‘’ when you see the abomination of the desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel (Matt 24:15, Dan. 9:27). 
This is indeed a great abomination, and it will make the Jews extremely angry. Because of this, they will decide to fight him by all means, but the Anti-Christ will overpower them and try to exterminate them all from the surface of the earth. It will be during this time of hopelessness and much crying to God that Christ, the true Messiah, will appear from heaven to show himself to them as their Messiah. The Anti-Christ, the false prophet, and his armies will see him coming. They will try to use the advanced weapons they have prepared and reserved for this purpose to fight him down, but all their weapons and their entire armies will be destroyed. The Anti-Christ and the false prophet will be through the lake of fire that burns forever, while the remaining people shall be consumed by the sword from his mouth. ( Rev.19).

The millennium reign of Christ
After the extermination of the government of the Anti-Christ, the devil [Satan} who had empowered the Anti-Christ and the false prophet will be chained and thrown into the bottomless pit until one thousand years are over. During this time, Christ will set up his millennium rule on earth. He will rule from the Temple in Jerusalem. One can easily tell from these revelations why Jerusalem today is a global focus.
The Bible says during this time those who were able to live righteously without the mark of the beast will be judged, and the judgment shall favor them, and they shall reign on earth with Christ. Hallelujah! The people of God will reign and rule with Christ (Rev. 20:4-6). So, we do not need to look for another planet. If there could be such a planet, only great men and their children would be allowed to live there. Thanks to God, he has the best plan for his people, and it is sure.

The final battle {Armageddon} 
When the one thousand years are over, the devil will be released again. He will deceive many and gather them like the sand of the sea for the final battle. But he will be thrown together with his armies into the lake of fire where the Anti-Christ and false prophet are and will remain there forever (Rev. 20:10).

The white throne judgment 
Immediately after the battle, there is going to be a great judgment called the white throne judgment. As the name implies, Christ will be seated on his white throne and judge everybody, great and small, from different languages and nations of the earth. This is in fulfillment of the promise God made to David that somebody from his throne will reign forever. (2 Samuel 7:16). 
Remember that those who died not in the Lord will not be able to rise during the rapture until this time, when both the sea and hell will give up all who died in them. Everybody will be judged according to his works on earth, and those whose names are not found in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire, where the devil and others are, and they will remain there forever. The Bible called this the second dead (Rev. 20:11–15).

The new heaven and the earth 
This is going to be the apex of everything! The Bible says a new heaven and earth will appear. The old ones have passed away by fire (Rev. 21:1, 2 Peter 3:7). There will be no crying anymore, no pain, and no death (Rev. 21:4, Isaiah 65:17, 66:22). So, we will forever be with the Lord. To God be the glory! 
In conclusion, those are the plans of God, and they are unfolding in these end times before our eyes. All the commotions in the world today are signs that a great thing is about to happen in the world, and this great thing is the coming of Christ. He will soon come to save only the saints of God, while others will be eternally damned. His arrival is much more imminent than before. Therefore, what evidence or signs do you need to believe in his coming and the impending judgment upon the world? Just receive your salvation now before it is too late for you to do so. Confess your sins with your mouth now, and with your heart, believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for your justification and rose up for your glory. He is your Lord and Savior. Amen.

Look, the best way to prosper is to prosper in the wisdom of God and have rest of mind! Biblically, the fall of man led him to separation from his creator, unending sufferings, and death; he can no longer have the best of his life as it was in the Garden of Eden.

 Presently, he is experiencing hell on earth!
As a result, man continues in his inordinate quest for the restoration of his lost dominion and glory. But it seems his last resort for getting this done is the devil, his archenemy!
This is why today, many are seeking power, money, and fame at the hands of the devil in exchange for their souls. And in an attempt to bring this to reality, they have involved themselves in all kinds of evil, just to get quick riches that cannot stand the test of time. As said earlier, in the end, disappointment and sorrow ensue. 

Thanks be to God, who has made abundance of grace available to all men through his Son! It is certain, therefore, that everyone must reconcile with his creator through his Son Jesus to find restoration and success in all his endeavors.

Guard your heart from Eye-catching things of our present day.
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23.
Many things we desire come as a result of what we saw and settle in our hearts. For this reason, the Bible says, “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.” Proverbs 4:25.
This is a divine call to focus our attention on our heavenly journey. Looking back is dangerous. Remember Lot’s wife, Genesis 19:26. What we see has power to capture our heart more than what we hear because of the strong picture it will create in our mind. When this happens, it will distract our attention and eventually shift us from the faith. The Bible says when the woman saw that, Gen. 3:6. Again, David also saw the woman who was washing herself from the roof of his house and desired of her 2 Samuel 11:2. That was the beginning of their journey to the point of sinning against God. They saw it, desired it, and committed sin as a result.
In today’s world, a whole lot of eye-catching things are everywhere, calling the attention of the believers to get them distracted.
Here are the eye-catching things that may lure Christians away from God, backed up with scripture:
1. Social Media: Endless scrolling, likes, comments, and shares can distract from spiritual growth and quiet time with God.
“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
2. Materialism: Attractive advertisements, luxury brands, and worldly possessions can shift focus from eternal treasures to temporary pleasures.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19
3. Entertainment: Engaging movies, TV shows, video games, and music can consume time and attention, leading to spiritual complacency.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2
4. Worldly Relationships: toxic friendships, romantic relationships, or peer pressure can sway Christians from God’s teachings and values.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
5. Technology: Overindulgence in smartphones, gadgets, and digital tools can lead to addiction, isolation, and disconnection from God.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37
6. False Teachings: Misleading doctrines, cults, or watered-down gospel messages can confuse and lead Christians astray.
“Watch out for false prophets. By their fruit, you will recognise them.” Matthew 7:15-16
7. Pleasure and Instant Gratification: Tempting desires, instant gratification, and short-term pleasures can distract from long-term spiritual goals.
“Run from sexual immorality. God will judge all people’s secrets.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
8. Busyness and Stress: Overwhelming schedules, stress, and anxiety can crowd out quiet time, prayer, and Bible study.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
9. Comparison and Envy: Social media comparison, envy, and competition can lead to dissatisfaction, pride, and a focus on self rather than God.
“Let each one examine his own work…and not compare himself with somebody else.” Galatians 6:4
10. Secular Humanism: Philosophies emphasising human achievement, self-reliance, and worldly success can subtly shift focus away from God’s sovereignty and grace.
“For in him we live and move and have our being…we are his offspring.” Acts 17:28
